re-reading; refreshing.

"When everything in your life is uncertain, there's nothing quite like the clarity and precision of fresh snow and a blue sky." - Pam Houston

For the past week or so, the sun has been out and I have never felt better. An overwhelming sense of "home" and feelings of peace have truly filled me and I am feeling so grateful for where my life has taken me. I could have posted some fresh snow photos from Wyoming, but I found these two, unshared photos, that I took of myself in my last home, on Punchbowl glacier in Alaska. I am lucky to have found clarity in so many beautiful places.

P.S. Thanks for the refreshing gift Virginia, it was a joy to re-read.

P.S.S. At some point, I just stopped spot cleaning. I don't need another LECTURE Chris. I cleaned my damned camera!!!!

Glory Bowl

TODAY was a low risk avalanche day, and my boss insisted that I was ready to ski in the backcountry. So he loaded me up with his shovel and transmitter, and I was off... climbing to the top of Glory Bowl (10,000 foot range) with my skis awkwardly strapped to my pack.

The hike up hurt like hell because I am seriously out of shape, a Sea Level kid, and I'd also like to blame the big lunch I ate right before. It was a beatiful though, and reminded me of many friends who I know would have loved to share the experience with me. However, I was with two top noch buddies, Amanda and Chris, who guided me down, kartwheels and all. Check out the tip of the Grand in the background!

Love is on the Mountain

Blue Bird Day! Yahoo! Took photos of a silly Valentine's Day couple's race- grand prize 1,000 bucks-- I would have participated if I had a lover... but... I guess I'm back to wishing myself a Happy Valentine's Day. This year my Valentine was a free day on the Mountain and a goggle tan. I love you all!

P.S. Rya and Rosie are my true Valentine's! Love you most girls!

Stampede!

Today I got to hitch a ride on a feed truck at the annual Elk count at the National Elk Refuge in Jackson. Basically a bunch of smart folks pile up on the top of a full feed truck, ride around like a bunch of rednecks, throw pellets at each other, and let the feed dump out from underneath our feet and onto the ground in two straight lines. The Elk flock over and eat while we drive back down the middle and count em up! Only I was trying to keep my toes and my cameras from being sucked down the hole while taking these photos.

And we saw some coyote feeding on a live Elk... we put him out of his misery.

Poudre Saw His Shadow

Today was my 5th day in a row in the powder ... I am indeed suffering from an ongoing case of chilblains, or frost nip, on my toes- My pinkey toes are swollen like sausages, but I'm dealing. The above photo is a little self portrait I took while waiting for "Poudre, the Powder Pig," and his keeper the "Powder Profit" to arrive and predict the next six weeks of winter. Apparently Jackson looks to a different type of Hog on February 2nd, and he always manages to predict the same thing-- MORE POWDER.

I went skiing with this lunatic- he had WATER skis with bindings!
So anyway, Poudre SAW his shadow = more powder. And the profit spoke like Borat.

It was fun.
